Question
Hi, thank you for viewing my question and I hope there is something doctrine about it. My question is there examples of premonition being ok and are there examples of people with "gifts" of that nature.  While I don't claim to be psychic, there have been times that for no reason I have had REALLY bad feelings about something. and the times I don't listen to my gut bad things have happened.  such as just going to a friends all of a sudden I almost have a panic attack, 2 hours later while there I get jumped and robbed.  My mother has done similar things in the past too.  such as not letting me go to FL for a school trip, 3 months before the trip she said there would be a hurricane and she was right. between me and my mom there have been numerous strange feelings that are no way foreseeable that have turned out right. Can these be good or are demons working through us.  any help i would grateful.  Ron

Answer
Hi Ron,

In my opinion, your supposed cases of premonition are the results of neither God's influence nor Satan's. They're simply interesting coincidences.

There are examples in the Bible of God's giving supernatural revelation to certain individuals regarding future events. These examples include Joseph, Daniel, and many of the prophets, such as Isaiah. Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. In these examples, there was no question that God was speaking. In addition, there were numerous specific details that could not have been fulfilled by coincidence.

Nowadays, God does not make it a practice to work this way. Miraculous signs such as this were given during unique periods of history when God chose to unveil significant new revelation and usher in a new chapter of His plan for the ages.

Still, these instances of apparent premonitions are kind of fun and interesting to note. I found an interesting article on Wikipedia that proposes several theories for their existence. (Some make sense, while others are a bit far-fetched.) Here's the link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premonition

I hope that helps, Ron. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Expertise

I have studied the Bible and Bible-related topics since the time I was very young. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Bible, and a Master of Divinity degree. I enjoy delving into deep theological issues and always enjoy a healthy debate. But more importantly, I like working with people and helping them to find the answers that they are looking for. And I am convinced that these answers are available in the Bible.

Experience

By the grace and mercy of God, I have been saved, born again, adopted into the family of God. God has given me a love for the Bible, and for Bible-related subjects. In addition, He has blessed me with ongoing training in the Scriptures, from my youth on up. The more I learn about God through His Word, the more I want to share!
