Question
Hello and thankyou for taking my question: What I would like to know is about when Jesus turns water to wine....Mary asks him to do something about the wine running out and he basically distances himself from her and says his time has not yet come but then goes on to provide wine for the guests. Why did he first deny Mary and then provide what she wanted?

The commentary at this website might be of interest to you.  I especially like the emphasis on Mary's role of glorifying Jesus, not herself, encouraging obedience to Jesus instead of depending on her.
I don't think Jesus was denying Mary, but rather clarifying their relationship as well as explaining why His miracle would be less for the public and more for His disciples.
Since it says his disciples believed on Him as a result, I would say that the public may not have been aware of the miracle because it wasn't His time for that.
Like the commentator said, no doubt Jesus was making clear His relationship to her was not merely as a physical son, but as her Lord.

I have time for you. The Bible has been my guiding light for most of the 56 years of my life. My missionary parents in Brazil kindled a love for God`s Word by their example and their love for truth. The Lord has blessed my husband and me with responsible, independent children who love and serve the Lord and are our best friends. I would enjoy discussing any subject or problem from a Biblical perspective.
