Question
QUESTION: A friend recently asked if I had ever heard of anyone hearing soft chimes while reading Scripture.  I had not ever thought about that, but I know I have in the past heard soft soothing sounds. What could cause this? Is this just something in the back of our minds or something more?

ANSWER: One reason you might be hearing chimes when you read the Bible is because someone has a radio on in another room. Or your mp3 player might be playing music into earphones which you are not wearing, so it has kind of an eerie sound. I'm sure there are other possible reasons but those are a couple that come to mind.

QUESTION: I can assure you that there are no earphones or radios on, not do I own an MP3 player.  The only time I listen to music is in the car.  When I read scripture, it is quiet and nothing is turned on except a light.  Could there be any other causes?

Answer
Tina, There are times, when reading certain books or watching certain movies, that I have noticed the distinctive odor of dog feces. Once was while watching one of the Bladerunner movies starring Wesley Snipes. Another time was while reading Anne Rice's book, "The Vampire LeStat". I don't know where the odor came from. There were no dogs around. I quickly lost interest in the book and the movie.

If you are having a pleasant, unexplainable, experience while reading the Bible, I'm glad for you. I really can't explain it.

I can answer questions about Adventism, from the perspective of a well read member for more than thirty years. Martin Luther's treatise, "The Freedom of a Christian Man" is one of my favorite Christian writings. If I am not comfortable answering a specific question, I will try to refer you to a good resource.
