Question
What sacred texts are involved within Christianity, especially for the sub-traditions of Catholicism and Protestantism? What is the importance and role of these texts within the religion? How do these impact on the beliefs, doctrine, and how an adherent lives their life? How do these texts act as a bond for that religious community throughout the world?
- A reply before 7th would be appreciated, thank-you for your time and thoughts.

Answer
Maxine, a thorough answer to your inquiries would require a lenghty treatise, far beyond the scope of this service.
However, I'll provide some relevant thoughts about Catholicism:
The revelation of God is normative for both belief[faith]and action [morals].  So, the divine texts and message contain the pattern upon which Catholics are called to adhere, obey, and observe in their faith and morals.  Thus, these truths are the bonds that join the believers around the world into a coherent and mystical body.
For a discussion of the two sources of divine revelation: written scripture and oral tradition, I refer you to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs, 74-141,availablbe online at
www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm
The index at the end of the text offer further topics that relate to these paragraphs.
If these suggestions fail, feel free to write again.
Best wishes, Maxine.
