Bible Studies/Where is the evidence for the supposed Jewish custom?

Question
Hello, my name is James. I have encountered a widespread claim among Christians that there was a first century Jewish marriage custom in which the son builds a "huppah" and does not know the time when his father will give his okay on the work so that he can fetch his bride. This is used to explain why the Son in Mat 24:36 says that he does not know the day or hour of his return to fetch the church but only the Father.  Do you know where the evidence is (Mishna or other source) for this supposed custom? I cannot find it. According to Rela M. Geffen in "Celebration and Renewal: Rites of Passage in Judaism", Jewish tradition says that the father builds the huppah. I am confused. Could you help me? Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi James,

This sounds like an attempt by certain Christians to explain away the Rebbe's clear statement. Believing as they do that Rebbe Y'shua (Jesus) is God incarnate they must explain away the verses to the contrary. This is but one of several places where he is clear that he is HaShem's inferior.

Typically first century marriages were arranged and orchestrated by the parents and/or temple leadership. I suspect someone is being creative here.
