Bible Studies/healing/coughing

Question
I have a person on facebook who claims she coughs when someone is getting healed through her prayers. She claims this is a sign of cleansing. Yet for the life of me I cant find any reference to it at all. She also claims she does what she calls,"The Jirah Dance" (victory dance as done by Miriam). Are these two things scriptually sound? Can you give me scriptures to varify or deny the claim?

Answer
Shalom Wayne,

There is no biblical support to back up the idea that a cough is a sign of cleansing in this context.
We do not heal, God sometimes heals through us as we pray by the Power of His Ruach (Spirit). This sounds like a New Age idea to me. I would be concerned about the nature of the spirits that are causing her to cough (assuming she is sincere).

The dance of Miriam was done following HaShem's victory over the pursuing Egyptians. She and others danced for joy (Exodus 15:) acknowledging that HaShem provides for the needs of His people. Biblical religion does not use such practices as meant here. Many non-biblical religions seek to "raise energy" through dances etc. but this is not a biblical concept. Miriam and her associates were inspired the Ruach of HaShem and they joyfully danced in His presence, offering Him praise. Such things are not to be imitated.

Adonai-yireh means "the Lord will provide."

Hope this helps,
