Question
There was a time where i thought, wow christians are abit weird..they try to hard and are just obsessed with religon. what if god uses a evil power to brainwash people.. i repented afterwards and have been working on my relationship with the lord. But did i commit the unpardonable sin?

Answer
Hi Paul!

Thank you for your interesting question.

The simple answer, from what you have told me, is that you have not committed the "unpardonable sin".  Indeed, the very fact that you claim to have repented, would suggest that this is so.

The "unpardonable sin", according to Jesus (see Mt.12:32; Mk.3:29; Lk.12:10) is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - Who, of course is, Himself, God (the third Persona of the Trinity.  You might find my audio message at www.revcbross.blogspot.com to be useful with regard to that particular doctrine).

This is the ultimate rejection of the salvation that is offered to us through the sacrifice of Jesus (God the Son) at Calvary - as we shall be remembering next week.  Indeed, the writer of the Letter to Hebrew disciples of Jesus makes the point when he asks the question to which God Himself cannot provide an answer: "... how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?" (Heb.2:3; RSV)  If you have the time, there is also an audio message on that subject on the site already mentioned!

You mention that you are working on your relationship with the Lord.  That, also, would not be the case if you had committed that sin.  However, I would encourage you, if you have not already done so, to become involved with a fellowship of God's people who show clearly that they truly love Him, and are active in seeking to introduce others to Him.  It is as we spend time with Him - reading His Word, and speaking with Him in prayer - and with His people that we grow in faith, and deepen our relationship with Him.

May you know His continued blessing upon your own life.

In Him

Expertise

I am happy to offer answers to anyone with a question that refers to the Christian Faith in its widest possible sense. I believe that the Bible is the living Word of God, and seek to base all of my life on its teaching. I also have some knowledge of some of the cults, and of Islam and Judaism. Of course, my answers are just one man's thoughts, and I would always advise a questioner to check with others, and with the Word of God.
