Question
Shalom Aleichem,
On the 40 year Pilgrimage in the wilderness, how many days would it have taken ( without detour's ). I always' thought it was six day's !!!
                                  By His Grace,
                                      Sonny

Answer
Shalom Sonny.

Interesting question. I'm not sure how long it would take a person to walk that distance but it would have much longer than 6 days. Had they taken the direct route it would have been about 250 miles (about a month’s journey on foot assuming everything went smoothly) however they took the long way that led through the Desert of Sin (and Mount Sinai). We do not know the exact route although many places are given.

Remember they were a huge band of people (about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children: Exodus 12:37-38; Numbers 1:46 for a number of about 2 million people, perhaps more), the route they took was not direct and they stayed in various places for extended periods of time, fought battles and so on. It was the will of HaShem (God) that their generation die during the sojourn and they were following His timeline.

Shalom
