Question
Sir,

In Genesis 15 v9-13 could you please help to clarify the significance of the activities therein. is it correct to say that if Abraham stayed awake to chase the fowls away, his descendants would not have gone into bondage?

Thank you

Answer
I think the essence of this passage is verse 13.  God's word to Abram was, "Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years...."  In my Bible, this is cross-referenced with Exodus 1:10-11 which tells about Israel's time in Egypt. In Egypt, they dwelt in a land that was not theirs.  This passage is a foreshadowing of it. Joel
