Question
Sir,

In Genesis 15 v9-13 could you please help to clarify the significance of the activities therein. is it correct to say that if Abraham stayed awake to chase the fowls away, his descendants would not have gone into bondage?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Afolabi

Thank you for this great question.  The story here in Genesis 15 is about a special very serious treaty that was used at that time.  Each party in the contract would walk through dead animals and swear that if they did not keep their end of the deal they would be like these animals.  God did not make Abraham walk... it was a one way covenant that God promised He would do as He said... or be like these animals.  No...  the slavery was not because of a mistake Abraham made...  The whole point of this chapter was that the covenant was a one way promise made by the grace of God.

I hope that this helps you.

In Christ
