Question
Tom,
I don't know if this is your area or not, but do you know where(if any) in the old testament that there was writing about not touching idols of satan?  I recently house sat for a girl that, at the time i didn't know, later found out she was into witchcraft or some sort of satanism.  There were two statues of demons, or somesort, that she had above the bed she set up for me; so during my stay I moved the statues to the basement so I wouldn't have to look at them.  After that I felt this enormous demonic oppression, that I couldn't shake after I left the home.
I have a feeling that it was because I moved the idols downstairs, felt a spiritual attack from this.
Do you know of any scripture on this?
If so, thank you so very much, if not - is ok.

Answer
Touching idols is not issue if we are saved, because the idols have not power over us. What scripture says throughout is not to serve or worship the idols because in so doing you turn against God and put the idols as gods in the place of the true God.

Though they have no power, there is certainly precedent in scripture for getting rid of idols and destroying them, not because they have power, but because of what they present.

You have not said whether or not you have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour - that is more important than anything else because the power of the Holy Spirit is more than  the power of any spirit. If you have not received Jesus as Saviour or are not sure if you are saved, please email me at smithtj@religioninfo.org.

Expertise

I am able to answer a wide range of questions regarding orthodox Christian theology as well as those of many of the more common cults and religious movements (inside and outside of the church). This includes Protestantism, Charismatic movement, New Apostolic Reformation, Strategic Prayer/Spiritual Warfare, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses, Calvinism, Reformed Church, Baptist Church, Pentecostalism, and Oneness Pentecostalism. I have been a member of or have attended many of the above. I have studied the beliefs and literature of the remaining through a variety of means, including in most cases interacting with members and/or leaders in these organizations. I also maintain a significant library/resource of information on these movements and organizations.

Experience

I have been a lifelong student of the Bible. In addition, I have been saved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and believe in the truth of God's Holy word in the Bible as the inerrant and infallible word of God. I have been a believer for over 43 years. Other qualifications include:

- Former member of the counril of a local church
- Speaker at the "Last Days Bible Conference" and other functions.
- Researcher into religious movements and cults (maintain website with information on some of these movements and cults)
- Member of the Apologetics Coordination Team

I hold to the view that the Bible is inerrant and infallible, and I belief that the Bible is our sole authority on matters of faith and doctrine (Sola Scripture, Sola Fide).
