Bible Studies/god's wrath
Did God, through Christ, vent his wrath against us, against sin or against both and what bible verses support it. Thank you for talking my question
Following are some key verses in the New Testament that mention God's wrath.
These verses indicate that God's wrath is directed at the sinner--those who rebel against God:

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Romans 1:18 KJV
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Ephesians 2:3 KJV
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Ephesians 5:6 KJV
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Colossians 3:6 KJV
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
1 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV
10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come .
1 Thessalonians 2:16 KJV

Hebrews 4:3 KJV
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said , As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Revelation 6:16 KJV
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Revelation 6:17 KJV
17 For the great day of his wrath is come ; and who shall be able to stand ?
Revelation 11:18 KJV
18 And the nations were angry , and thy wrath is come , and the time of the dead, that they should be judged , and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Revelation 12:12 KJV
12 Therefore rejoice , ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Revelation 14:19 KJV
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
Revelation 15:1 KJV
1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
Revelation 15:7 KJV
7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.
Revelation 16:1 KJV
1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways , and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Revelation 16:19 KJV
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell : and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Revelation 18:3 KJV
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
Revelation 19:15 KJV
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
These verses indicate that, while man is subject to God's wrath while still in his sin, God removes that wrath through the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ, making available forgiveness and reconciliation:
Romans 5:9 KJV
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 KJV
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 Peter 3:9 KJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish , but that all should come to repentance.
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.
So I guess you can say that God's wrath is directed at both the sin and the sinner. However, God hates the sin and loves the sinner. That is why He made a way to remove the wrath for all those who call on Him and receive Jesus Christ.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish , but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved .
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved . 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith , Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed . 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For * whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved .
