Question
Rev. Frank Ricketts,
In the Exodous we read about the 10 plagues of Egypt but in other parts of the Bible we read about the 7 plagues. I would like to know when they went from 7 to 10 or from 10 to 7, what are the 7, why was it changed, etc.
Do you think you can help me?
Thanks.
Jo

Answer
The 10 plagues of Egypt were reserved for the people of Egypt because of their leader's unwillingness to let the children of Israel leave.
  Plagues on Egypt (Exodus 7-12)
1. All fresh water turned to blood, including water in containers.
2. Frogs.
3. Gnats from dust of the ground.
4. Flies - God begins to make a distinction between Israel and Egypt.
5. Plague on livestock, including horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep and goats.
6. Boils from soot.
7. Hail with thunder and lightning (fire - KJV).
8. Locusts, brought in and out with wind.
9. Darkness over part of Egypt.
10. Firstborn of Egypt die.
The seven plagues in the end are reserved for those who do not have the seal of God.
Falls only on those who do not have the seal of God. At the beginning of the sequence, God's temple in heaven is opened.
1. Painful sores (boils).
2. Entire sea turns to blood. All living sea creatures die.
3. All springs and rivers turn to blood.
4. Sun scorches people.
5. Darkness on Throne of the Beast
6. Euphrates River dried up. World prepares for Armageddon.
7. Hailstorm and severe earthquake.

As you can see these plagues have two different missions, if you will. One was for a specific period while the other is for another specific period.
We pray this has helped you.
