Bible Studies/BIBLICAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN EVANGELISTS
Expert: Pastor Don Carpenter - 11/6/2006
QuestionI am being led of God to preach the word in the role of an Evangelist. Coming from an Independent Baptist Church this does not seem to fit well because of the fact I have been married before. I understand the qualifications of Pastor and Deacon. I would not believe God would be calling me in this directions if He did not approve. However, getting my Pastor to support me in this calling could be somewhat controversial? If he does not approve, I would want him to show me why, using the Bible of course as reference. Thank you for your time. Love In Christ, Robbie

Does the Bible give specific qualifications for the role or office of an Evangelists?
-----Answer-----
Hi Robbie,
THank you for this question. I do not believe that the Bible gives specific qualifications for an evangelist. It i=does not seem to be an office of the church like a pastor or a deacon.

AnswerHi Robbie,
Thank you for this follow up. I strongly suggest that you speak with your pastor on this subject. Remember, just because you "feel" something in your heart does not mean it is from God.
Jeremiah 17:9
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
It is important to learn from and submit to your pastor's Biblical teaching.
Hebrews 13:17
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Let your pastor show you why he believes what he believes, and be open and ready to learn from him. Who knows, perhaps he will support your direction.
I hope that this helps you.
In Christ
Pastor Don
