Question
Dear Rev. Ricketts:

I have been studying the Bible as well as commentaries in order to aid my understanding of Scripture. What do you think of one commentator's statement that if one wants to know what a word or term means in the New Testament one must study what it means in the Old Testament. What it means in the Old Testament is what it means in the New Testament.

Thanks for your help,
Sal

Answer
Using a Strong's Concordance will greatly aid you in the understanding of the Bible.
Old Testament words are translated from their Hebrew meanings.
New Testament words are translated from their Greek and Chaldean meanings.
You will find that the Old Testament is a foreshadow of the New Testament, therefore it is important to study the Old Testament.
Prehaps the biggest example is the Tabernacle.
