Bible Studies/Devil helpers?
Expert: Pastor Don Carpenter - 6/23/2005
QuestionHi Pastor Don Carpenter,
Let me start off by saying; I'm a writer, and the information I am requesting is for a story. I hope this does not discourage you from answering as the story talks about how evil can infiltrate us from seemingly the most innocent of sources, A subject I feel is important.
I'm wondering if there is anything in the scriptures that spicifically mentions the devil placing beings amongst us to help him gather souls, such as witch's. I'm not nesessarily looking for any word in particular such as "witch", but any word pertaining to a being that does his bidding.
I know there are passages which talk about the evils of witchcraft and sorcery and not to practice them, but what I'm looking for is the possibility of actual beings, placed here for the distict purpose of being the Devil's helper.
Any scripture would be appreciated.
Thank You
Marc
AnswerHi Marc,
I will give you some scripture references and you can do with them what you wish.
Ephesians 6:12
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Revelation 12:9-11
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Jude 4
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Ephesians 2:1-2
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
James 4:7
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
THose are some verses that you could use just off the top of my head....I am sure that you are familiar with Revelation 13 and 17...they have been overused in stories like yours. I hope that these will be a help. Hey..when you are finished send me a copy!
