Question
Gomer is also the name of the adulterous wife of the prophet Hosea, but is she a ficticious character that is being used as a point of reference to the people of Isarel and the disappointment in their behavior.
Well, she is not fictitious, but God has woven her into his prophecy concerning Israel. I am not sure if the particular name in this context has a purpose in the prophecy or not. Gomer was a son of Japheth, which would be of the Gentiles and may be a mark of the contention God has with Israel rejecting him and being as the Gentiles.
