QuestionPaul
Can you please explain to me the significance of the Holy Ghost? If possible, can you say how it relates to Jesus? Are we supposed to think about the Holy Ghost as a notion or something we pray to? Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.
AnswerDear Rafey,
The Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, is something that no one understands completely. However, there is much we can derive from the Scriptures on the subject. The trouble with this subject, as with most, many go beyond God's word and dream up things about it that they just cannot support with the Bible.
The Holy Ghost is the omnipresent Spirit of God, as much God as the Father and Word/Son. The Word became flesh to manifest the love of the Father. The Spirit is the manifestation of the power of God. At least this is one way of looking at it.
The important part to remember in regards to your question is that the Holy Ghost or Spirit of God's ministry is not to glorify himself but the Son, Jesus Christ.
John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 HE SHALL GLORIFY ME: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
The Spirit is not something we pray to nor are we instructed to make him an object of our worship or attention. Our focus is to be upon seeking God through the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
John 5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. HE THAT HONOURETH NOT THE SON HONOURETH NOT THE FATHER which hath sent him.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME.
The emphasis that many put upon the Holy Ghost is not biblical. The Holy Spirits ministry is to deal with the hearts of men concerning faith in Jesus Christ and to guide his in the way.
This is a rather brief look at the Spirit but I hope is helps.
Your Servant In Christ Jesus,
Paul Walker
