Bible Studies/Jehovah Witnesses

Question
Hello,

I am a Christian and I have a family member having meetins with Jehovah Witnesses to learn their religion (not Bible studies but through their published small booklets). Her faith from my point of view is not strong and has been going to Catholic church. She first made friends with them cause they were really friendly to her. After learning about Jehovah Witnesses for a few times, she is saying that what they are saying is truth.
Do you know how to convince her not to associate with them and not to believe their teaching? Do you have any proof/Biblical verses against their religion/resources/web sites etc that I can use?

Thanks a lot,
James

Answer
The first things to ensure that you understand what the teachings of the JWs are and how they compare to the Bible.

To understand what the JW religion is and how to address the approach that the JWs take towards the Bible, a good book to get is Reasoning from the Scripture with Jehovah's Witnesses by Ron Rhodes. This book goes through their beliefs in some level of details along with scriptural responses and specific questions to ask to help them to think about what the Bible has to say. I would highly recommend it for you.

In additional, here are some articles that I have written:

There is much much more, but you need to start from here. Where I would start is to go through the question…”Is Jesus God”? with him. If he can get a proper understanding from scripture of God, then he should realize the errors of the JW religion.

I have a document on my website link above and in addition here are a couple of other documents written by a missionary with the Friends of Israel that should help:

Lastly, I would suggest that you contact Lorri MacGregor at http://www.macgregorministries.org/ She has an information package that she sends out to JWs upon request for a small fee ($2 I believe).

Expertise

I am able to answer a wide range of questions regarding orthodox Christian theology as well as those of many of the more common cults and religious movements (inside and outside of the church). This includes Protestantism, Charismatic movement, New Apostolic Reformation, Strategic Prayer/Spiritual Warfare, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses, Calvinism, Reformed Church, Baptist Church, Pentecostalism, and Oneness Pentecostalism. I have been a member of or have attended many of the above. I have studied the beliefs and literature of the remaining through a variety of means, including in most cases interacting with members and/or leaders in these organizations. I also maintain a significant library/resource of information on these movements and organizations.

Experience

I have been a lifelong student of the Bible. In addition, I have been saved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and believe in the truth of God's Holy word in the Bible as the inerrant and infallible word of God. I have been a believer for over 43 years. Other qualifications include:

- Former member of the counril of a local church
- Speaker at the "Last Days Bible Conference" and other functions.
- Researcher into religious movements and cults (maintain website with information on some of these movements and cults)
- Member of the Apologetics Coordination Team

I hold to the view that the Bible is inerrant and infallible, and I belief that the Bible is our sole authority on matters of faith and doctrine (Sola Scripture, Sola Fide).
