Another source that would help is the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, and perhaps Unger's Bible Dictionary. Many commentaries provide some cultural background information for specific passages. Also, you may want to skim available titles at a Christian bookstore or library, or at amazon.com. There's a fair amount written on the culture and lifestyle of Bible times.
