Question
I am writing a Theology paper for school, and I have been looking all over for an approximate number of names that are given to God in the Bible. Whether self-proclaimed names(Jehovah) and/or names given by people in situations. Thanks a lot!
Your quest is not an easy one. But I did find a few books which speak rather extensively about the names of God.
The best listing is in "Nelson's Bible Dictionary" and another is, "International Standard Bible Encyclopedia". In each look under "Names of God".
Hopefully one or both of these will be in your school library or a website. If not, write again and I will try to copy some of the names through "cut and paste" and send them to you.
No sources that I could find gave an approximate number of names because they have different criteria on what is a "name" of God. ie. some include such things as "rock".

I can give the etemology of Greek words, primarily in the Koine Greek, but also in Classical Greek. I can also give explanations of much of the Bible having read it many times and written many Bible studies.
Experience
I studied Greek in earning my BA at a university and my DTh. and MDiv. at an accredited seminary. I was a diviity student at both the university and seminary, spending most of those eight years studying the Bible.
