Bible Studies/Regaurding the sabboth
Expert: Pastor Don Carpenter - 9/9/2006
QuestionYou say that the fourth commandment was done away with with the rising of Christ right? what about the other commandment are we not subject the the conceiquences of breaking any of GODS commandments? I dont see how you come to this concluison considering this scripture)!!!Matthew 5:17 "Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of the pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven."
So please explain to me how we are not to continue what the LORD has given us in the !) commandments. And Jesus aslo told the desciples to keep the sabboth day holy. He didnt say until he died on the cross, if this is true then the scripture above is a lie, right? I look forward to your response. Also the clause at the end of your ask a question, seems a little retortical, dont you think wheather its just to protect you legally or not, you will be held accountable by GOD himself for the answers you give, so please be sure to pray and Ask GOD to give you the truth on the questions asked and for your response to be Bibically truth not what you've been taught by men, but what GOD says on the subject. May GOD Bless and keep you.. Valrie
AnswerHi Valrie,
Thanks for this question. Here is what the Bible says about the 10 commandments, the law written in stone:
2 Corinthians 3:7-11
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Note verse 11! THAT WHICH IS DONE AWAY! We are not under the bondage of any of the 10 commandments. The only thing that the 10 commandments could do is to reveal the sin within us... it can do nothing to make us holy.
Romans 3:19-22
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
If we break one commandment ( and we all have) we are guilty of all of them.... therefore we are guilty of breaking every commandment anyway... that is why Jesus had to come.
James 2:10-11
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
When Jesus died, he nailed the condemnation that comes from the old law onto the cross.
Colossians 2:14-16
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
God tells us specifically that the Sabbath days were nailed to the cross.
Now as to other commandments, the others are mentioned again in the New Testament, but not once is the Sabbath mentioned, except to tell us that it nailed to the cross and we are not under its bondage.
I know that you probably disagree with me, but these truths are in the Bible verses I just mentioned.
I hope that this helps you understand my perspective.
In Christ
