Bible Studies/Song of Songs
Expert: Paul Walker - 7/14/2005
QuestionThanks for your response. I agree that there is an enemy who tries to make the Bible sound unholy. However, when I read verses such as Chapter 5:1 & 8:1,2, it looks like the writer is painting a sexual colour to the relationship between brother & sister (though he is talking about lovers).
Anyhow, the Song of Songs in general makes the whole Bible vulnerable to attack by non-believers.
I am not good at theology and I would appreciate if you can provide me a simple answer so that I can defend my faith in the Bible.

Question -
Why a book such as the Song of Songs is included in the Holy Book?
Answer -
Lenin,
Well, I cannot go into a commentary on the book here, but it is part of God's word. There are many who consider it one of the great books of the Bible. As all of God's word there is much confusion over it, which is to be expected as we do have an enemy who is trying to make it so.
I would get a King James Version of the Bible and read it a few times and then look for some commentary. Here is one you can start with.

Hope this helps.

AnswerDear Lenin,
I am not sure there is a simple answer, the Bible is a love story and the Song pictures this. The love of the King, Christ, and his beloved, the Church. It is also one of the wisdom books and most likely very prophetic. It is not a book that lends itself to a simple answer. It is part of God's word and worthy of much study.
You are going to have to defend you faith in God's word without having complete understanding of it. Having a complete understanding would kind of negate the necessity of having faith. Orthodox Jews have always held the book in the highest esteem and it is and always has been part of the canon of Scripture.
There is not much else I can help with concerning your question.
