Question
In 1 Samuel 16: 10-11, Jesse was said to have 8 sons, but in 1 Chronicles 2:15, David was mentioned to be the seventh son.  Why the discrepancy?

Answer
I will try to answer your question soon.  I might be busy this weekend, so I will try to answer it on Monday.

God's Gospel:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."  Ephesians 2:8-9

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

ANSWER----   O.K.  I read those verses.  Here is another one.

1 Samuel 17:12 ¶ Now David [was] the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name [was] Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men [for] an old man in the days of Saul.

It is definitely not an error.  I searched some sources, but could not find an answer as to the difference.  It may be that in the context of 1 Chronicles, one of Jesse's sons may have died.  This would then make David the 7th son.  That is one possibility.

I have a younger brother and a sister who is the youngest.  If my brother were to die, my Dad could say that my sister is his second child.

I do not know what the answer is, but I know it is not an error.  I have seen many "problem passages" over the years, and the more I learn, the more I discover or hear of answers to them.

Thank you for your question, and please feel free to ask any again.
