Question
Dear Mr. Bode,
In the church bulletin it says that if we're faithful to God's teachings we will be rewarded for all of our suffering, like Lazarus. Is that true? Am I going to be rewarded for my suffering? Do you know where in the bible it says that will happen?

Answer
Two relevant passages:  Jesus said that we must take up our cross and follow him [Mt 15:24].  Paul [Col 1:24]remarked that we make up for what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ.
Traditionally, the Church encourages us to unite our sufferings with those of Christ.  The Saints through the ages have also emphasized this aspect of suffering.  We need to imitate Christ in his sufferings.
So, suffering in union with the sufferings of Jesus are good works and bring merit toward eternal salvation.
You might check The Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 2014-15.  The text is available on the web:

Best wishes, Mark.
