Bible Studies/Timothy I & II

QuestionDear Paul,
This past week I went over to the club house
and while there began to speak with 3 married
females, who I know somewhat well. They where
all drinking cocktails which they bought. I do not drink but while having a soda, the middle
one in age spotted a 4th woman and said some- thing about wanting to meet her.
I could not see any reason why the two
females could not speak to each other. There-
fore I went over and introduced myself to the
older woman, named Rose, and then introduced
her to the 3 females I was sitting with. The
four ladies began to chat about a lady that
I knew but is passed from this earth.
I was not sure of the who they where talk-
ing about, but the deceased womans name is
not common to our area of Illinois. So I
asked if they where speaking of this woman
whose last name I knew. Then Rose turned to
me and said something about me reminding her
of the book of Timothy. At the time I did
not remember anything about the messages of
St. Paul, other than there where two books.
Now, I know they deal with Conduct and
Religion. I am still not sure what there
meaning is and how it would apply to me.
Like I have said I do not drink ever and
to the three females, I have always showed
kindness to.
Could you help me out with the meaning
of the two books of Timothy as they
pertain to daily life for a straight non-
drinking hispanic male such as I?
Thank you for your time,
Fred
AnswerDear Fred,
The epistles to Timothy are written to the minister of God's salvation, individuals as opposed to the Church as a whole, i.e., to all saints, as the books of Corinthians thru Thessalonians. They are written as an elder to a younger, a father to a son. They instruct and admonish the servant of God to live godly, holy and righteously and how to set up and order the Church.
I cannot tell what your friend was referring to, but I can admonish you to read them carefully. They are not very large, but are of considerable import.
Hope this helps.
Your Servant In Christ Jesus,
Paul Walker
