Question -
Can you tell me how many times the word "anger" is mentioned in the Bible?  Thank you.

Answer -
Hi, Ruth! Nice to hear from you.

I count 232 times that the word, "anger," is used in the King James version of the Bible, in that exact form.

I'm curious as to why you ask that question.

The reason I wanted to know this is because I want to present it to a loved one who has a real anger problem.  I hope I can get across to him how important an issue "anger" is in God's eyes by being able to tell h im how many times it is mentioned in God's Word.  Thanks for your speedy reply.Ruth

Answer
Ruth,

Galatians 5:16-26 would be a good passage to consider. Here, we're told that anger is characteristic of our sinful nature. On the other hand, peace and self-control are listed as fruits of the Spirit--qualities that are realized when we allow the Holy Spirit to govern our lives.

The first step in dealing with such issues is for one to come to Jesus Christ and accept His free gift of salvation, thus being born again into God's family. (See John 1:12, 3:1-21, Romans 10:9-10,13.) When God saves us, He also delivers us from the bondage of sin, and, for the first time, gives us the potential to break free (Galatians 5:1).

The next step is, as a child of God, to allow the Holy Spirit who lives within us to direct our lives. This involves developing a close relationship with God through regular prayer (talking to God), Bible reading (allowing God to talk to you), and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. (He is often prompting us, but we may not always acknowledge His presence and His impetus.)

I believe that a proper understanding of the indwelling Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian, along with His prompting and guidance, is key to winning the battle against the old, sinful nature and living a victorious Christian life.

Let me know if I can help further.

Scott

Expertise

I have studied the Bible and Bible-related topics since the time I was very young. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Bible, and a Master of Divinity degree. I enjoy delving into deep theological issues and always enjoy a healthy debate. But more importantly, I like working with people and helping them to find the answers that they are looking for. And I am convinced that these answers are available in the Bible.

Experience

By the grace and mercy of God, I have been saved, born again, adopted into the family of God. God has given me a love for the Bible, and for Bible-related subjects. In addition, He has blessed me with ongoing training in the Scriptures, from my youth on up. The more I learn about God through His Word, the more I want to share!
