Question
Hi there I was wondering if you could please tell me the meaning of Ezekiel 38:17 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Art thou not he of whom I have spoken in old time through my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days, for many years, that I would bring thee against them?

The thing is i have searched and can find no reference to Gog anywhere else...except as one of the sons of japeph..surly this is not who it means? God bless you and thanks ...

Answer
Hello John,

Thank you for your question.
I apologize for such a delay.
I believe that Gog is just referring to a specific place or region within the land of Magog.   When God refers to Gog, He is referring to the people that live within that region who are enemies of Israel.  At least that's how I have interpreted that verse.  I don't see it being a reference to anything else.

Ezekiel 38 seems to be alluding to the time of God's final judgment.  You will also see Gog and Magog mentioned in Revelation 20:8.  Please see Revelation 20 starting around verse 7 and do a comparison with Ezekiel 38 and you'll see some striking similarities.
