Why does Mt 27:9 say Jeremiah and not Zechariah
Answer
Dear LILJON,
what does deut 23:2 mean
Deuteronomy 23:2 A BASTARD shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; EVEN TO HIS TENTH GENERATION shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
Hebrews 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye BASTARDS, AND NOT SONS.
Bastard: Born of unwed parents; illegitimate
Deuteronomy 23:3 An Ammonite or Moabite SHALL NOT ENTER INTO THE CONGREGATION OF THE LORD; EVEN TO THEIR TENTH GENERATION shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
Illegitimate children as Ammonites and Moabites were not permitted legal status as Israelites until purified by 10 generations. That is, marrying legitimate Israelites and their children marrying legitimately, etc., etc.
Why does Acs 7:16 say Abe and not Jacob
Acts 7:16 And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.
Why should it not say Abraham? he is the one that bought the place spoken of.
Genesis 23:17-20 And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure (18) Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. (19) And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. (20) And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
What does John 3:13 mean
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
He is simply describing himself as coming from and returning to heaven.
Why does Mt 27:9 say Jeremiah and not Zechariah
Matthew 27:9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
Most likely because Jeremiah must have said it, even though it is written in Zechariah also. There are a few places like this where God for whatever reasons adds information that is not given in the OT.
2 Timothy 3:8 Now as JANNES AND JAMBRES WITHSTOOD MOSES, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
No one knows who Jannes and Jambres are, it is understood to be the Egyptian magicians. Just believe what God wrote regardless of what those who sit in judgment on the Bible say. Stick with your King James Version and believe it.
Hope this helps.
