Question
In the holy bible in deuteronomy 18:18 it states "i will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee and i will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak unto them all that i shall command him." i am currently reading a book entitled "Islam and Christianity." This book argues that this prophecy refers to Prophet Muhammad rather than Jesus. It argues and gives several reasons to prove this point. I just wanted to know your take on this and if there is similar substantial evidence to prove this prophecy refers to Jesus. Thanks!

Answer
I believe Deuteronomy 18:18 (below) is referring to Jesus.  Jesus was sent into the world by God the Father (Jn.17:18, Jn.12:49 below).  Jesus will tell us all things (Jn.4:25 below).  Jesus does nothing of himself, but as God the Father has taught Him; what He should say, and what He should speak (Jn.8:28-29, Jn.12:49-50 below).

Deut.18:18  I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren (Jn.17:18 below), like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth (Jn.8:28-29, Jn.12:49-50 below); and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

Jn.17:18    As thou (Father) hast sent me (Jesus) into the world (Jn.12:49 below), even so have I also sent them into the world.

Jn.4:25     The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  Jn.4:26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am [he].

Jn.8:28     Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.    Jn.8:29  And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Jn.12:49    For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me (Jn.17:18 above), he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

Jn.12:50  And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
