QuestionMy question is that the bible calls messiah, the son of david. jesuah called himself the son of david, yet he also claimed himself the son of a mother with an immaculate conception. How is this possible.
Answer Hello. The word son in The Bible does not always have to mean strictly a son. It can also mean descendant, and other things. In the West, an American man may call a younger male, "son." Such as, "How are you doing, son?" Now he is not saying that it is his own child, in this case. I can say that I am a son of Adam, because if I were to trace back my lineage far enough, I would trace it back to Adam.
Sometimes they would say "son of David." For example:
Matthew 1:1 ¶ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
I believe you will find instances where someone is called the son of someone else. They might be the grandson of the other person, but it is accurate, and fine to call them son. Even a son-in-law could be called a "son."
Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was [the son] of Heli,
Scholars believe that Joseph was the son-in-law of Heli.
