Question
What Scriptures refute the Catholic notion of Purgatory

Answer
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

There is no biblical support for a waiting period.
Also, Christians believe that we are saved exclusively through what Jesus did on the cross, so...

Eph 2:9: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

No amount of penitence can save a person. Only the blood of Jesus. There is no biblical reason for there to be a place like Purgatory.

The point when discussing doctrine is not so much how to disprove as how to prove.
Ask them to support the teaching from the Bible (ie not from church doctrine). They can't.

Hope this helps,
~John
