Question
Dear Patricia,

Hi.  I was hoping you could give me help with two passages that I'm having a hard time reconciling.

Verse 1.  Matthew 5:18, "Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place."

Here it seems to me that Christ is saying that the law will stand no matter what. I'm thinking that I should look at the last part,
"until all things have taken place,"  as meaning a fulfillment of His mission, right?

If I'm wrong then, I need help putting it together with verses like the following,

Verse 2.  Galatians 2:15-16, "We, who are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles, yet who know that a person is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ..."

I know it's got to be something simple like what "until all things have taken place", but I am unsure about the "all things" part.  Is this His mission?

Thanks, Laura

Answer
Hi, Laura:

You make an excellent observation, "till all be fulfilled" (Matt.5:18 below).

I would make an observation for consideration as well, "from faith to faith" (Ro.1:17 below).

Israel lived by faith (Heb.11:4-5, 7-9, Heb.11, 17, 20-24, 27-30 below)  prior to receiving The Law of Moses with the statues and judgments (Mal.4:4, Jm.2:10 below).

Once the partial blindness of Israel is lifted (Rom.11:25 below), Israel will live by faith once again (Jer.31:31-34, Heb.8:10-12 below).  Israel will have come full circle.

It is the Sixth Seal appearance of the Lord with power and majesty (Re.6:12-17) which will lift the partial blindness of Israel (Rom.11:25 below).  From that day and forward (Eze.39:22) the house of Israel will know that Christ Jesus is the Messiah, and Jer.31:31-34 and Heb.8:10-12 (below) will be fulfilled under "a new covenant".

I believe that "till all be fulfilled" will occur at the Seventh TRUMPET ascension (1 Thess.4:16-17)

Matt.5:18    For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law (Gal.2:16 below), till all be fulfilled.

Gal.2:15    We [who are] Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles (Eph.2:12 below),

Eph.2:12        That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Gal.2:16    Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law (Acts.13:39 below), but by the faith (Ro.1:17, Ro.3:22, Ro.3:28, Ro.5:1 below) of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Acts.13:39    And by him all that believe are justified from all things (Ro.1:17, Ro.3:22, Ro.3:28, Ro.5:1 below), from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses (Gal.2:16 above).

Ro.1:17     For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Ro.3:22           Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Ro.3:28    Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Ro.5:1     Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Mal.4:4     Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb FOR ALL ISRAEL (Gen.49:28), with the statues and judgments.

Jm.2:10           For whosoever shall keep the whole law (Mal.4:4 above), and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Rom.11:25       For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

By Faith PRIOR to the Law of Moses -

Heb.11:4    By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Heb.11:5    By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Heb.11:7    By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Heb.11:8    By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Heb.11:9    By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as [in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

Heb.11:11    Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Heb.11:17     By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten [son],

Heb.11:20     By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

Heb.11:21    By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, [leaning] upon the top of his staff.

Heb.11:22    By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Heb.11:23    By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw [he was] a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

Heb.11:24    By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

Heb.11:27    By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Heb.11:28    Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

Heb.11:29    By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry [land]: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

Heb.11:30    By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

A New Covenant -

Jer.31:31    Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Jer.31:32     Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was husband unto them, saith the LORD:

Jer.31:33    But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts (Heb.8:10, Heb10:16); and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jer.31:34    And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me (Heb.8:11 below), from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more (Heb.8:12 below).

Heb.8:10     For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Heb.8:11    And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me (Jer.31:34 above), from the least to the greatest.

Heb.8:12     For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more (Jer.31:34 above).

Matt.26:28    For this is my blood of the new testament (Jer.31:31 above), which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Fellowheirs, as the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 below) -

Eph.3:6    That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

1 Cor.10:32   Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

Sanctified Once for All/For Ever -

Heb.10:10    By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Christ once for all.

Heb.10:11    And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

Heb.10:12    But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever (Heb.10:14 below), sat down on the right hand of God;

Heb,10:14    For by one offering he hath perfected for ever (Heb.10:12 above)  them that are sanctified.

Heb.10:16    This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them (Heb.8:11);

Heb.10:17    And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more (Heb.8:12).

Grace/Sanctify -

Heb.13:9    Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Heb.13:12    Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify (Heb.10:14 above) the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
