Question
What does a * (star) indicate when used next to a New Testament Verse?

Answer
Deaqr Corkey,

Sorry for the delay. I've been out of town for the last week, just back today.

The asterick (*star) can mean different things, depending on which Bible from which publisher you are using.  I suggest you read in the begining pages of your Bible to see if the publisher gives you an explanation of the meanings of the symbols they use.  It is important that you understand that these special markings are NOT part of the original text, but entirely the opinions of the publishers and compilers of the particular Bible you are using.

If your bible does not give any explanation, let me know which one it is, and I'll look into it for you.  The Bibles I use regualraly do not use that particular convention.
