AboutDean Gade Expertise I can answer questions concerning the translating of specific words and translations of the New Testament. I can give the etemology of Greek words, primarily in the Koine Greek, but also in Classical Greek. I can also give explanations of much of the Bible having read it many times and written many Bible studies.
Experience I studied Greek in earning my BA at a university and my DTh. and MDiv. at an accredited seminary. I was a diviity student at both the university and seminary, spending most of those eight years studying the Bible.
Question I was looking at getting another Bible for myself. I currently use a nelson study and a comparative (niv,kj,nasb, amp) for my devotional time. I am trying to decide between a scofield, ryrie, life application, or a macArthur which would you recommend?
Answer It is difficult to recommend any of these because you have to decide what you are looking for. Personally, I like cross-reference so I would go for the scofield.
For Bible commentaries I have found that the quite old Mathew Henry is one of the best even though the style and language reflects a more concise time of writing with words not often used in our time.
Your amplified Bibles, along with the multi-version Bibles are sufficient to get a good understanding of what God is saying. The next step after this would be Nestle's "Novum Testamentum Graece" with Strongs Exhaustive Concordance.....
OR, MY RECOMMENDATION, a really good PC Bible study like "Biblesoft version 4" which has many Bible versions, concordances and add on libraries of commentators.
It sounds like you are ready for this serious type of study and I'm sure that you will enjoy working with it.
