Bible Studies/temple vs synagouge

Question
Hi there Dean.

Could you please share your knowledge on the differences between the Jerusalem temple and the Palestinian synagouge during the NT period? As in the aspect of worship, leadership, participation and function etc etc.

Your help is MUCH appreciated!
Thanks in advance :)

Answer
The Temple was specifically ordained by God as the place where He was to be worship through
sacrifices and various rites. These were to be done no where else—only at the Temple in
Jerusalem.

Sometime before the first century B.C. the rabbis developed the Synagogue as a community place
of fellowship. Scripture was read, teaching took place, classes for Bar Mitzvah and other things
took place in the Synagogue. The Synagogue was never meant to take the place of the Temple,
only to make a place for people to meet together on Sabbath and at other times for fellowship.
