Bible Studies/Is wasting food and energy wrong in God's eyes?

Question
Hi there.
It seems like its selfish for us here in the U.S. to use so much food, oil, and all, compared to the rest of the world uses. Does that make it sinful? Or is that feeling of 'wrongness' a sign of it being wrong? Or doesn't it matter, since my actions alone wouldn't directly save anyone's life or change things? In other words, is this a personal issue of mine alone, or am I hearing God's will?

Answer
Hi Andrea,

We are told in Genesis that humankind was placed on this earth as caretakers. I believe it is the responsibility of all people of faith to try and wisely manage what we have and use it for the glory of God and the betterment of the planet. Hence, wastefulness, in my opinion, is a sin and a dereliction of our God-given duty as earthly caretakers and as Believers in God.

Jesus pointed out that the poor will be with us always (or at least until the Millennial Kingdom is established). It is the duty of richer people and countries to share their wealth with poorer ones ('...in that you do so unto others, you do so unto Me'). At the same time, there is nothing wrong with those in better off conditions enjoying the blessings of God in their lives. Its a question of balance here.

Hope this helps,
May God bless your compassion for others,
~John of AllFaith
