Can you use a cloth material of some kind or can you clean with a Q-tip like people use? if other ways please tell me thanks

you should never use any implement to clean the dogs ears such as a q tip.
The best way is a cotton ball soaked in olive oil then squeezed out before wiping the outer ear,

you can also place two drops of olive oil into ear during grooming, massage gently then take a cotton ball (dry) and wipe out .
