Bichon Frise - grooming?

Expert: Kaza - 1/16/2009

Question
At what age should I get my Bichon-shtzoo mix hair cut and what style do most use?. Also at what age can a puppy breed? Haven't got him fixed yet and have another female.

Answer
Hello Cindy
well males can and will breed from about 4 months onwards, it has been seen on many occasions, so beware. To have the pup accept grooming as part of his or her daily routine is essential for a well balanced dog, this grooming takes many forms such as combing, ear playing, feet massage, mouth opening etc, this should be done by you. As alpha within your little pack it is up to you to show what is acceptable within the environment, you should never be challenged and the best way is to start the little exercises above.
A professional groom is usually done around 16 weeks, as before the nails can split and the dog isnt ready for the environment of a grooming parlour, also we need to remember that diseases will befall your little one if they come into contact with a sick doggy.

We play open mouth and tickle toes to encourage all our pups from 3 weeks to readily accept grooming.
