Bichon Frise - How much is too much food?

Expert: Kaza - 10/1/2009

Question
I have a 8 yr old Bichon and I feed him twice a day. He gets 1/2 cup of dog food for Mature dogs. The problem is he does not seem to be full. He seems very hungry every time and licks his bowl clean. Should I feed him more? Or is that enough for his age and weight (23lbs.

Answer
Depends on his frame, he sounds like he has become used to the food. Start to introduce low calorie snacks in place of that 2 nd meal of which he doesnt need.
Things like
Carrot batons
Cucumber
Apple slices
Pear
dried meats or fish sticks

Have you wormed him recently, if not try that .

Also try placing ice in his water dish to entertain him and he will want to drink water more often instead of food gobbling.
Also it is important to stimulate him mentally , bichons require lots of mental work so, buy a treat ball , fill it and make him work for his food.
