Bichon Frise - Diet and toileting questions

Expert: Kaza - 3/3/2009

Question
I coparent 2 3-year old Bichons, and am thinking of taking them on full-time.  How often should they be let out and at what intervals during the day?  How often should they be taken for a walk?  What is a proper diet for these dogs?  And, at what times should they be fed?  Do young Bichons often urinate/defecate in the house overnight during sleeping hours.  If they are upset or feel insecure, does that lead them to do their business inside the house?

Cheers,
Howard

Answer
Howard alot will depend upon how they ahve been looked after previously. Most Bichons like a good walk for about 30 mins per day, nothing too strenuous although mine love to hunt squirrels in the park, they are terriers in reality so this is normal. My best advice is to start crate training , this will ensure that they are good with toilet training and socialised better. Bichons are people dogs so if nervous or anxious will tend to pee or poop, this is easily overcome with a kind heart and a loving home that understands the idea of crate training.
