Bichon Frise - adopting a bichon

Expert: Kaza - 8/7/2009

Question
I am planning on adopting a 8 week old bichon puppy soon. I will be away at work  9 hours 4days a week. My husband is retired, so he will be at home to feed and take the puppy out every 2 hours. I can't see him doing anymore than that. I will be the primary caregiver and trainer. Will the puppy be okay with that schedule?

Answer
IN reality no , the pup will need to attach to the human present for the times it is awake . I think that this is not going to be such a great idea in your circumstances, bichons need stimulation and interaction, if your husband cannot or will not do that, then psychologically the dog will find its own stimulation. This will include peeing and pooping in the house , chewing shoes, the cupboards, furniture, being shy of humans and also potentially biting and barking.

Hope this helps.
