Bichon Frise/Honking or Gagging

Question
Sometimes our Bichon Frise/Cavalier King Charles spaniel mix will start "honking" or gagging.  She will come to me and all I can do is pat her on the back until it stops.  Do you know what causes this?  Thanks.

HI there this is commonly referred to as reverse sneezing to stop her simply hold gently her muzzle and talk to her. It is common amongst all the toy group and unless it is caused through a small trachea which is unusual then the best way to control it is as suggested above, although it looks very distressing it does no harm.
As your dog has some cavvy in I suggest a vet check to ensure the heart is OK.
