QUESTION: Hello Karen,

Sorry I was not clear before, but what I was asking is that my new puppy (12 weeks) has a funky part or cowlick on his back. It starts at the base of his tale and goes about halfway up his back. If it is a puppy cowlick can I train his hair to grow in a different direction? Also will it affect his adult coat? Thank you for your quick response and I look forward to hearing from you.

Answer
Hiya Veeda
This is normal and as the coat gathers length it will become more distinct. The puppy coat is very light and like cottonwool, it will part be less curly and may even break until the adult coat comes in. Simply cut the coat to about 1 inch in length and it will get stronger and be less likely to break , frizz up or part. You will also note as the baby gets older the skin becomes patchy with brown marks this too is normal and much desired in the frise.
We are all only as good as how and what we eat, may I suggest that you give the baby some natural food with plenty of fish oils to help the coat skin eyes and any potential to allergies be lessened as he ages.Frises make wonderful puppies and a great diet is essential to help them age gracefully and with a certain zing.
