Question
My Bichon seems to bark at everything that moves...how can I stop this?

Answer
Well, firstly, stay calm. If you are upset and screaming, the dog can sense your tension.
A good idea is to squirt a sudden spray of water and say "no!" with a firm and effective voice. This is very persuasive with small dogs, as well as cats.
By 3-6 months, your puppy should already be taught to stop barking when told to be quiet.

Another method is to shake a metal can filed with coins or whacking a fly swatter against the wall or table to gain the attention of the dog.
Whatever method you decide to use, stop it immediately once the dog has stopped barking.
The lesson taught is that the dog's own barking will cause a spray of water or loud noise...and that his silence stops them.
If none of those correction methods work, try tapping the fly swatter against the crate, with a firm "No! Stop that!"

Absolutely under no circumstance whatsoever...unless your house is on fire...should you remove your barking dog from his crate. DO NOT remove him even to correct him. Many dogs are willing to accept the correction methods you enforce if it means getting out of his crate.

Expertise

I have the ability to answer questions in regards to crate training, housetraining, teaching a new puppy/dog "words", such as "sit", "no", "easy”,” biscuit", "cookie", etc. I can answer questions on how long it should take to train your dog, which training devices to avoid, and which ones really work. When training a dog it is important not to talk to much; in other words your dog will struggle to understand what you are saying and only pick out the words he knows. I can also help with how to make your dog stop growling or barking, as well as tell when it's time to call a local trainer if your dog is becoming too aggressive. I can also answer questions on how to socialize your dog with other people, children, and yes, animals. A lot of dogs do not like loud voices, quick movements, and yo-yo emotions. I can also help recommend which type of collars, leashes, etc. are best for your dog. Choke collars are definitely unacceptable and they could damage your dog’s windpipe. Also, the choking sensation frightens a lot of dogs.
