Question
what is the right age to start breeding a male bichon?  i don't have a female right now so how can i go about using him as a stud?

Answer
Before you even consider using your dog at stud.  Not all dogs should be used at stud.  Reputable breeders breed to better the breed.  Breeding the best to the best.  The Bichon Frise has many genetic problems.  They can be eliminated from the breed if we only bred dogs certified clear, (multi-generation) for these problems.

These days reputable breeder have at least 3 or 4 generations that are CERF & OFA clear.  The CERF is for cataracts.   The bichon is probably the # 1 breed for juvinile cataracts.  The OFA is for hip dysplasia and patella laxation problems.  Again reputable breeder today have at least 3 or 4 generations clear.

If do not have a dog that has these certifications multi-generation, then you should not be using him for breeding purposes.  This is the only way we can rid the breed of these problems.
