Bichon Frise/cage training

Question
I have a 7 mon. old Bichon Frise puppy.  I have tried training him to stay in a cage but he just yelps non stop.  What is the best way to train him?

Also, my little puppy has always had another dog to play with all the time.  I am moving soon and my puppy will not have another dog in the house with him while I am gone to work.  Do you have any suggestions how to help him make this transition?  There have been time when he was by himself for a few hours and the neighbors told me he had yelped the entire time.

Thank you for your help.

Answer
The bichon is high maintance.  They do not do well home alone all day.  They demand a lot of attention.  I would recommend a another dog in the household.  They get back at you for leaving them all day.  Most by housebreaking problems.   They are extremely difficult to housebreak.  If you don't get them out every couple of hours they will never housebreak.
