Jane, I've been grooming my bichons at home for several months. It started when I had a groomer come to my house. As she worked, I asked lots of questions, asked her about the tools she used, how to clean the ears, etc. When she left, I got on the web and order the materials I needed from PetEdge. It takes awhile--about 3 hours for both dogs but they are happier having me do it than going to a stranger. Granted, it isn't show-quality grooming, but lots of people have commented that they look nice.
