Bichon Frise - weight

Expert: Kaza - 4/2/2007

Question
My Bichon is 15 weeks old and is 12 lbs!  I think his size is too big for his age.  I was told by the breeder that he is a pure bred. How big will he be as an adult.
Thank you

Answer
OMG 12 lbs at 15 weeks is very big. Did you see the parents and also do you have any pedigree papers. the dog is likely to be about 20 lbs at adult judging by the weight now, this needs to be maintained sensibly otherwise patella luxation may be a severe problem, to alleviate this I suggest giving a really low fat diet, give exercise and use glucosamine and chondratin daily as part of the health regime of your pet. I woud also suggest giving snacks such as cucumber, carrot batons, instead of doggy treats.

Suggest that you contact the breeder and see both parents, I dont doubt whatever you wil love your baby but being very careful with the diet is inevitable here.

If you need help with diet advice please log into my site and look the subject up.
