Question I have a 2007 diamondback response hardtail mtb and there is one link one the chain that WILL NOT move at all. This link causes the chain to skip on the sprockets really badly and im tired of it. I decided to buy a new chain but dont know what to get. Any suggestions? Im also a little confused by the chain size. My bike is a 24 speed (3 front, 8 back) and the chains im looking at say 8 speed. Does that talk only about the back 8?
Answer The different speeds for the chains refer to the cassette speeds. The cassette is the group of sprockets on the rear wheel. The typical size for these are 112 links for a 26" mountain bike. The cause of this link to be stiff is that it needs to be lubricated. Twist this link from side to side to unstick it. When it's no longer stuck, put a couple of drops of a lightweight oil or chain lubricant in it to prevent it from sticking again. If you have any more questions, please ask.
